Surpassing Cyan’s wildest expectations, it not only became the bestselling PC game of the 20th century, it also had a direct influence on popular culture. Maybe it would turn out a bit like Obduction did.On September 24th 1993, Cyan released Myst – the surreal, graphical adventure game that provided an entirely new kind of experience for millions of virtual explorers. But I'd want to see a lot of gameplay and puzzle improvements. Not sure how good a sequel to Uru would be. I also found the empty worlds a bit depressing. There's also the real-time puzzles, like the four pods that require you to be online at the right time and the waiting time for the pellet machine. I'd also need other players online to clear multiplayer areas like the two garden ages. Missed jumps (and falling through the floor sometimes) can cause major setbacks. I don't think I'd replay it though, as the gameplay is very slow. I also got to play with the same people on several occasions. I remember unintentionally chairing some small meeting years ago, which was cool. There were many people who had completed the game who just hung out and helped guide people. I didn't like a lot of the puzzles either and the platforming could be buggy. There was also at least one time everyone's save files were permanently lost (as well as my limited-time t-shirt). Getting 100% was a pain when you needed multiple people though (maybe due to UK time zone). There was some dudes doing stand-up too.Įven now, there still isn't anything similar (and if there is, I'd be interested to know), and having it in VR would be totally awesome. The social aspect was really impressive, I remember some nights where a few people would gather around and play music, and the rest would just sit there and listen. Originally posted by Syrius:I don't think it will ever happen, but I'd love a VR remake of everything, that would be awesome.Īlso, it had lots of issues, some due to gamedesign, some to actual bugs and glitches, but i really enjoyed Uru live, there was an awesome community there, as a noob you'd be guided by others, learn, and guide the next ones. I look forward to playing in VR (if I can afford it), but please don't make another afterwards for at least a decade. I expect the other titles would need some redesigning to make them more enjoyable. If Cyan focused on the Starry Expanse Project or made an Exile remake, I would be very happy. These games are easily my least favourite. Uru live also has puzzles that require multiple people to complete. There's also numerous time based puzzles, some use real-time and make you wait for hours. You can fall through the floor or easily miss a jump, which can cost you a lot of time. I really liked some of the game and it had great atmospheres, but the negatives prevent me from wanting to replay it.ģD worlds instead of the pre-rendered gameplay of the others. Not everyone seemed to like the acting, although I did. Wouldn't be the same without Brad Dourif as Saavedro though, who is now 70. The game could really use a remake as the original has a very low resolution. It has less acting and better received puzzles. Riven is also very complex and would require more work than the the rest of the series. However, I doubt Cyan would make a separate remake as the are collaborating with the project. Starry Expanse Project is over 10 years old and won't be finished anytime soon. Here's a breakdown of the later titles viability: Myst is a much simpler game than all the later titles and this feels very lazy. I'll certainly buy and play it yet again, but I'd rather have a remake of Riven or Exile.
